Located in the heart of the Kittatinny Mountains, Harmony Ridge is a 160-acre campground that is open year-round. Family-run since 1963, this large campsite offers rental cabins and panoramic pitches. There are also many amenities including a pool, playground, basketball court, paddle boats, a new hockey rink, and gaga ball court. There is also a snack bar that serves breakfast every day.

Located on an actual working farm, Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm Campground offers a pet-friendly area, game rooms, game room, pool, miniature golf course, sports fields, and a fishing lake. Families can stay in the camp’s large, air-conditioned cabins, equipped with bathrooms, full kitchens, large outdoor decks, and flat-screen TVs. Located in Monmouth and Middlesex counties, this beautiful park is home to well-marked nature trails and a lake. Cheesequake allows you to swim in Hooks Creek Lake when lifeguards are on duty. The spa complex is equipped with changing rooms, toilets, a first-aid kit and a beach bar with snacks, novelties and beach items. Fishing is permitted and boating and canoeing are permitted out of season.

11. Turkey Swamp Park – Freehold

The Monmouth County Park System developed this beautiful wooded park with campers in mind. The park features a 17-acre lake that is used for fishing, boating, and ice skating. The park also has an archery range, playgrounds, and miles of trails. The family campground offers wooded areas for RVs and travel trailers, with fire pits and picnic tables. Three basic cabins are equipped with heating and air conditioning.

12. Allaire State Park – Howell

Allaire State Park – Howell

Between its historic 19th-century steel town and the Pine Creek Railroad, which has an old working steam train, Allaire State Park is the perfect place for a family camping trip in New Jersey. The park is home to several easy hiking trails and access to the Manasquan Reservoir, which offers fishing and boating opportunities. Allaire’s camping facilities include 45 campsites and 10 cabin-style shelters that include beds and a wood stove for warmth. Each site also includes a fire ring and picnic table. 13. High Point State Park – Sussex

The park’s camping facilities include 50 tent sites along Sawmill Lake, six-person cabins that include fully functional kitchens and bathrooms, and a large group cabin that sleeps 28. Families can hike, fish, boat, swim in the lake in the summer, and cross-country ski in the winter. The park is home to the High Point Cross Country Ski Center, where you can rent skis and other winter sports equipment. The camping season begins in mid-May.

14. Belleplain State Forest – Woodbine

Located in the Cape May area, this state park is home to Nummy Lake, which has swimming areas with lifeguards. You will also find a children’s playground, showers and a snack bar open in the warmer months. There are also several trails for families who want to explore the area on foot. Belleplain State Forest has 169 tent and RV sites with fire pits and picnic tables. Showers,Toilets, and laundry facilities are within walking distance. A handful of cabins are also available for rent.

15. Swartswood State Park – Swartswood

Swartswood holds the distinction of being New Jersey’s first state park and is known today for its beautiful lake. Near the campsite there is a beach, as well as playgrounds, toilets with showers and a beach bar. Boat and canoe rentals are available at the park depending on the season. The park has 73 pitches for tents and motorhomes and some cabins.

16. Adventure Bound Campgrounds at Tall Pines – Elmer

Located in southwestern New Jersey on 113 wooded acres, Adventure Bound Campgrounds at Tall Pines is a family-friendly campground that offers outdoor adventure without sacrificing the comforts of home. The camp, open from April to October, has a swimming pool, a wading pool, a themed weekend event and children’s activities. Visitors can reserve campsites, as well as a variety of cabins and trailers. The camp is pet friendly.

If you’re looking for a manageable hiking trail before settling into camp, try the state forest in Nova Lisboa. You will find large pine trees, swamps, sandy roads and remains of an ancient city. You will need to reserve the pitch in advance of your visit.
